Brian Colaco is a Goa-based singer-songwriter whose life found meaning and purpose during a youth retreat at the Divine Retreat Center in Kerala on May 24, 1999, when he was just 17. Through a Word of Knowledge, Br. Glen La’rive, a praise and worship singer, revealed a calling for Brian to serve God through music and songwriting. With no prior musical experience, Brian received further encouragement from Swapna Abraham, another praise and worship leader, who advised him to ask the Holy Spirit to guide him in learning music. Thus began his journey of prayer and music.
Brian started practicing the keyboard at a friend’s house after college and became known as the “Cardboard Guitarist” because he carried a cardboard cut-out of a guitar fretboard in his bag, practicing whenever he had free time.
Over the years, Brian has produced music for Pauline Communications and Tabor Ashram in Mumbai. His debut album, Speak to Me, was followed by Saviour Come and Divine Mercy Chaplet. He later established his own website to release singles and offer his music for free download. His songs, deeply rooted in his faith experiences, are written to bring hope and consolation to those facing spiritual crises or despair.
Some of his most beloved songs include “Song of David,” sung by Neuman Pinto, “One Thing for Sure,” sung by Levin Gomes, and “Walking on the Water,” sung by Accasio Pereira. Despite considering himself an average singer, Brian is dedicated to finding the right voices for his songs, always seeking to deliver the message of hope through the power of music.
